Why Moral Considerations?
Welcome!
Why name the website “Moral Considerations”?
Because the question before just about everybody, just about all the time, is: What do I do? The deciding, and the doing, might lead one to reflect: What do I want? What do I value? What feels right? What is the best thing to do in this situation? Moral considerations enter into most everyone’s life every day.
What do I do? Short answer: Do whatever brings you absolute, utter joy.
Does that seem self-centered? Short reply: Joy encompasses much more than one’s own enjoyment. Discovering a sense of meaning, purpose, vocation for one’s life, vocation that one is actively fulfilling. Loving someone, being loved. Feeling morally justified in one’s actions, even if they don’t produce the desired outcome. Being confident in one’s course, even in the midst of setbacks. Earning respect. Reveling in relationships. Having the sense that one is making the community, and the world, better places.
The short reply is getting too long. So, I leave it to you. What, for you, is joy? Singing in the rain? Dancing in the dark? Watching a sunset with a crowd of people on Cadillac Mountain in Acadia National Park, Maine? Sitting with a misty sunrise in solitude? Sitting around a campfire with friends? Making somebody happy?
Why Moral Considerations? Why not?
